This 2016 Merlot was harvested in late September, which is typical for Merlot around the Grand Valley. Grown and harvested by Talbott’s Farm, the grapes were then destemmed and sent to the fermenter where primary fermentation took place. After 10 days of fermentation and 24 days of maceration, this Merlot was pressed and sent to barrel where it aged for approx. 9 months in neutral oak. Part of this Merlot was blended into our Wingspan Red ’16.
Merlot 2016 is really coming into its own with a fruity nose that is characteristic of Merlot, good body and smooth tannic finish. While it’s coming up on 4 years old, it has the structure and body to continue to age well in bottle.
