A Talon Toast to Mom on Mother's Day
It's May and that means a pause to honor our mothers. Moms nearby or far away appreciate it when we show our respect by selecting something that sends a message of love and honor. What better message than a bottle of the fruit of the vine, orchard, berry patch and beehive from Talon Wine Brands! Below are a trio of spring wines that would fit the bill: St. Kathryn Cellars Golden Pear, Talon's Riesling in the distinctive blue bottle and Meadery of the Rockies Honey Wine. Present her with one of these, and your mom will melt with love!
If you're cooking for your Mom on Mother's Day, here's a fabulous no-cook appetizer or dessert that uses the best of spring produce: strawberries and rhubarb!
Strawberry-Rhubarb Salad with Almonds and Mint
- 1 large rhubarb stalk, strings removed, thinly sliced on the diagonal
- 2 tablespoons cane sugar
- 1 tablespoon Meadery of the Rockies Honey Sheré
- 1 tsp. orange zest
- 1 pound strawberries, hulled, quartered or sliced if they are large
- ¼ cup toasted slivered almonds
- ¼ cup torn fresh mint leaves
Toss the sliced rhubarb with sugar, orange zest and Honey Sheré in a medium bowl. Macerate the rhubarb until it is slightly softened and releases its juices, about 30 minutes. Taste. If the rhubarb is still too sour for your taste, add a little more sugar and let rest a little longer. Add the rhubarb and all its juices to the strawberries. Add the almonds and mint leaves and enjoy!
Wonderful as a first course for a brunch, or over vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Custom Baskets and Gift Boxes Return for Spring
Our holiday baskets and gift sets were so popular that we've decided to revive them for spring. At left, our Lavender Fields Gift Box is just the thing for Mother's Day or graduations.
Order now by calling the winery at 970-464-1300, go to our online shop or drop by so you can view samples and taste wines! This is a limited offer, so don't delay.
Talon in the News
The media spotlight shines on Talon Winery this month, as Terri Cook from 5280 Magazine features Talon in her "Behind the Vines" blog. She details the history and vision behind Talon Wine Brands and talks about the vast array of traditional wines available, particularly praising the Viognier and the Gewürtztraminer. A Taste of Spring
Here's a trio of Talon Winery, St. Kathryn Cellars and Meadery of the Rockies wines we've chosen to celebrate spring as only we can!
Meadery of the Rockies
See for yourself why this mead was named Class Champion at this year's Rodeo Uncorked! international wine competition—Apricot Honey Wine has the fresh taste of apricots right off the tree, bottled for your enjoyment this spring! It’s medium sweet, slightly tart, with a clean, crisp finish. Enjoy chilled with bruschetta, veggies, cheeses and fruit.
St. Kathryn Cellars
Experience the bright flavor of ripe pie cherries! Brilliant color and a bright cherry nose. Enjoy straight or with bubbly added for a spring treat. Or try the Cherry Limeade recipe on our website—refreshing and sweet-tart!
Talon Winery’s Viognier has joined the ranks of memorable Viogniers for its slightly floral nose with hints of honeydew and its excellent balance. A remarkably versatile wine that you can open for family feasts or take along on a mountain hike!
Featured Fudge: Penuchi
This month our very own Colorado Fudge Factory is featuring this heavenly confection of Penuchi Fudge, a creamy sensation with the full-bodied flavor of brown sugar. Our fudge is freshly concocted on the premises for your enjoyment. If you're a Wine Club member, you can receive a discount on fudge purchases, too!
